For over 12 years, Hope International University has partnered closely with AMOR Ministries to provide homes for families in need. This Fall, during one of Hope’s day-long missions trips to Mexico, AMOR honored the University with a letter of recognition.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from AMOR as it confirms our University's mission statement to ‘prepare servant leaders,’” said Bryan Sands, Director of Campus Ministries.

In line with of HIU’s continuing partnership with AMOR, the University will be part of the organization’s “Cienega: A Global Gathering” project. Running from January 3 – 10, the trip involves house building and community engagement, such as children’s ministry, church outreach, and social justice projects, in the Yucatan. Last Spring, HIU students volunteered as leaders during AMOR’s Project Barnabus.

AMOR Ministries was founded by two HIU alumni, Scott (MA ’89) and Gayla Congdon (BA ’77, MA ’89). For over 30 years the organization has served poverty-stricken families by providing them with warm, safe homes built by volunteers. Every year thousands of volunteers help build houses as well as churches and schools and provide those in need with food, clothing, blankets, jackets, school supplies, Christmas presents and more. As of November 2013, almost 9,000 individuals have participated in an AMOR Mission Trip, building over 350 homes in the process.
