Position Information
Organizational Relationship: Reports to the Athletics Director
Position Status: Non-exempt, part-time (10-15 hours per week)
Position Summary: Responsible for developing and effectively leading a competitive esports team as the founding/inaugural head coach. It is expected that this position will provide visionary leadership as the program founder, giving considerable input into the needs and structure of the program. This position may be considered for transition to full-time pending the program's successful launch and attainment of ambitious roster goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop a framework for a competitive esports program, including initial pro forma and budget, competition plan, and build-out (or lease) of a best-in-class facility.

Identify and recruit 5-10 qualified new students in year one, with a goal to maintain a roster of 10-20 student-athletes (new and returning).

Procure and maintain necessary equipment for competition.

Develop, mentor, disciple, and coach a team in accordance with the university’s Christian mission and compliance with all league/conference guidelines.

Develop and maintain practice and competition schedules; register teams for competitive events; and oversee all other aspects of game operations.

Select, onboard, train, supervise, and evaluate all assistants and team personnel.

Ensure the accurate reporting of all team statistics.

Continuously ensure that student behavior and program reputation are in alignment with institutional values and brand.

Lead in the planning and execution of esports events and promotion.

Monitor academic performance, eligibility, and overall student well-being.

Manage the team budget, proactively seeking new and innovative streams of revenue.

Model caring relationships with students through personal interaction and as an effective role model of a committed Christian life.

All other duties, as assigned, by the Athletic Director or VPSA.

Education/Experience: bachelor’s degree preferred with significant experience participating in competitive esports at the collegiate/university level.
Knowledge and Skills:

A vibrant and authentic Christian faith and worldview consistent with the University’s mission and values are required.

Considerable knowledge of the world of competitive esports.

Computer proficiency, including technical understanding of gaming hardware, familiarity with Microsoft suite of tools, knowledge of competitive platforms, social media savvy, and an ability to learn and use computer databases.

Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to sell and recruit new students.

Strong organizational skills – a self-starter who possesses the ability to self-manage.

Ability to establish trust and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and the public.

Ability to develop and manage a complex budget as a steward of institutional resources.

Ability to communicate effectively – virtually, in person, and in writing.
Mental Demands: Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects, problem solve, prioritize responsibilities, and deliver exemplary customer service.
Physical Demands: Extended intervals at a computer keyboard
Visual Demands: Extended hours on a computer monitor screen
Environment: Small office space with many interruptions and lots of people interactions.
Hiring Range: $25.00 - $28.00
