Event Highlights
We are very excited about this year’s NSO special events. There will be a variety of activities including:

| Come and enjoy a special Luau themed dinner out by the pool! Dress in your Hawaiian shirts or dresses and enjoy time with fellow students and staff! | ||

Finding a home church can sometimes be difficult and we want to help you connect with one as soon as possible. While this list is not an exhaustive list of all churches in the area, we have compiled a small list of churches in your packet that may provide a good starting point. Transportation will be provided and will be leaving from the parking lot at the designated times. If you don’t see a church that fits your style of worship, come talk to us and we can help you find a church that’s right for you! |

As a Barnabas Group, you will serve at various locations around Orange County and learn about the opportunities those various organizations provide. This could end up being a place you would want to volunteer at regularly! |

| The Zombie virus has been released! The faith of humanity is in your hands! If saving humanity wasn't on your to do list for this week, come to zombie prom. Grab your zombie attire and prepare to dance the night away. | ||

| This top secret event will take you around Orange County and give you a taste of what Southern California has to offer. All the activities and locations are top secret. You will not want to miss this! | ||

The Annual Clash-off is to establish our clashing royalty! Bring out your 80’s gear. Don’t worry we will have a run way for you to strut your 80’s clashing stuff! |

| Clash-N-Bowl | 10:00 pm | Bowling Alley |
Clash-N-Bowl is a Hope tradition! This is one of the biggest events of the year. All you need is some 80’s gear. No matching is allowed! We will have a bus to take us to the bowling alley. |

GENERAL SCHEDULE INFORMATION
Check-In: All students must attend. You will pick up your internet and phone information, mailbox combination, parking decal, finalize account details, receive information about health insurance, take your student I.D. picture (or pick up your Student ID), get your Barnabas Group assignment, and meet some of your student leaders. After check-in is completed you will have time to move into your room if living in the residence halls. You must be cleared in order to move into the dorms. If you are a commuter, you can plan to arrive to Check-In at 10:30.
President’s Welcome: All students must attend. President John Derry will welcome you to the Hope community and offer further information about New Student Orientation and the University.
Barnabas Groups: All students must attend. This peer mentoring program provides support and encouragement for all of Hope’s new students. You will be assigned to a group of 10-15 new students and one returning student who will act as your group leader. Your group will meet periodically to help you navigate through your first semester at Hope, integrate into the community, and get plugged into activities, programs, and groups on campus. Throughout NSO, you’ll have other opportunities to mingle with your Barnabas Groups and leader.
Closing Celebration: All students must attend. We will come together and hear one final word from the President, and have a time of prayer and worship as we celebrate our newest additions to the Hope community and the start of a new academic year. Following this celebration, will be the Family Send Off Reception which is the final event for families.
Academic Orientation/Advisement sign-up: All students must attend. You will receive important information about your academic experience from the Deans and Vice President for Academic Affairs. You will also receive the materials you will need for advising and registration.
Academic Advisement: All students who need to register must attend. You will meet with your faculty advisors to choose classes for the fall. If you participated in early registration you do not need to attend. Course reservation will take place with faculty advisors and final registration will be processed in the Registrar Office on the third floor of the Nutwood building. Clearance from the Business Office is required.
Student Life Orientation: All students must attend.The Student Affairs Department will introduce themselves and discuss services and opportunities offered on campus to all students.
College Inductions: All students must attend. This time is designed to help integrate you into the department you are majoring in (if you are undeclared, please plan on joining the College of Arts and Sciences). Not only is it important for you to develop relationships with those you live with or that are in your Barnabas Group, but also those that you will be spending time with in your classes. Meet the Dean of you college, upper classmen, and various faculty.
Social and Recreational Events: There will be a number of social and recreational events planned for you during NSO. Please refer to your schedule for times and locations. Attending these events is a great way to relax, meet other students and enjoy your first few days at Hope! We encourage all students to remember that socializing is an important part of your college experience and these are connections that can last a lifetime.
