Walking With a Purpose

The Marriage and Family Therapy department of Hope International University participated in the American Cancer Society’s 2010 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk of Orange County on Sunday, October 10, 2010. The team was 59 members strong, and included individuals from the MFT faculty, HIU students, Kaiser Permanente and Boeing employees, friends, families, and a few dogs. Their team name was the slogan that the department is known for, “It’s All About Relationships.”

Making Strides is not a race, but a celebration of sponsorship and an occasion to express hope for a shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many. Susan Hastings, MFT Program Director and Professor spearheaded HIU’s participation in the Walk, “The Breast Cancer walk was one more way to be the hands and feet of Jesus to make an impact on the world around us. Our desire is not to sit by and watch the world go by, but to be a part of the whole of humanity because it's all about relationships."

Beginning at the beautiful OC Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, the 5K Walk had over 8,000 participants and raised over $250,000.
