HIU Celebrates Steep Enrollment Increase for Fall SemesterHIU’s Fall enrollment numbers have increased significantly over the prior year. Although admission will continue for online students through the end of October, the University has already enrolled 395 new students. Included in this is a 35% increase over last year’s Fall enrollment for new traditional undergraduate students.

HIU’s mission has been, since 1928, to serve the Church and impact the world for Christ and the University is encouraged to see students embracing this mission in their educational careers. “These are especially challenging times for universities and we are pleased with the results of our enrollment this year,” says President John Derry. “We have an outstanding student recruitment team that has done a very good job of letting prospective students know about the quality academic experience offered at HIU. We continue to be impressed with the dedication and commitment of our students and we are looking forward to a great year.”

Among the traditional-age new undergraduate students the largest percentage (20%) have selected a Church Ministry related major followed by Psychology, Business, and Education. Of this group, 77% are freshmen, 80% are from the state of California, and 40% are involved in intercollegiate athletics.

Teresa Smith, Vice President for Enrollment Management, stated, “Our admissions team was diligent in pursuing prospective students that would benefit from the mission of HIU. Everyone at HIU participated in our recruitment efforts to make the HIU experience the right choice for our prospective students. We are excited about the student body at HIU and anticipate great things!” The University has seen many positive changes in the last 6 months in the way of better collaboration between all departments on campus to ensure efficiency while maintaining excellent customer service and the personalized attention that HIU is known for.

The University will see even more positive changes in the future as academic opportunities will be enhanced by the forming of five colleges underneath the umbrella of Hope International University. These organizational changes will provide better connectedness between the traditional undergraduate, graduate, and adult learner populations as resources will be shared and opportunities to students made more robust.
