Course Schedules
The School of Professional Studies uses a unique course scheduling system designed to offer students the courses they need, when they need them, in order to speed them toward graduation. Students may earn academic credits through four delivery systems:
- The General Education Carousels consist of two series of online General Education Core courses offered continuously on a rotating basis.
- Directed Independent Studies (DIS) enable students to complete General Electives and some General Education Core courses online and on demand.
- SPS offers Major Course Sequences through a cohort system in which students progress through a series of required courses, either online or on-ground, with the same group of classmates.
- Students may also fulfill General Education and General Elective requirements through "drop-in" courses from other Majors-that is, by completing courses required for Majors other than their own.
Most SPS undergraduate courses are 3-unit courses that are 5 weeks in length. Accordingly, the School divides its undergraduate calendar into a series of 5-week "Sessions." Students work closely with Academic Advisors to design a customized course schedule that meets the individual student's needs.
