COM3195 Writing and Research Skills (3 units - 5 weeks)
This course introduces students to skills needed for academic writing, critical thinking, and information literacy. [HD Major]

HDV3205 Childhood Development (3 units - 5 weeks)
This course provides an overview of human development in different domains (cognitive, personality, physical and social-behavioral), focusing on how psychological processes evolve and change over time through early and mid-childhood. Students explore childhood development and relevant applications for parents, teachers, and counselors in a diverse society. [HD Major]

HDV3215 Adolescent Development (3 units - 5 weeks)
This course covers leading theories pertaining to the growth and development of adolescents. Topics include development in biology, cognitive skills, emotional management, vocational aptitude, spiritual formation, sexual identity, as well as family and peer relationships. Special attention is given to the integration of theology and psychological models to prepare students for effective service. [HD Major]

BIB1310 Introduction to Biblical Literature (3 units - 5 weeks)
This course includes an introduction and survey of the Bible. Emphasis is placed on historical overview, major themes, and the uniqueness and authority of Scripture. Students also examine various types of literature in the Bible, identifying appropriate reading and study strategies for each. [HD & MGT Majors]

HDV3220 Adult Development (3 units - 5 weeks)
This course is a study of the physical, cognitive, social and emotional adjustments of adult life from young adulthood through the retirement years. A variety of adult developmental theories are introduced and applied to the human developmental lifespan. Included is a study of adult life transitional issues in the context of loss, grief, recovery, change, and growth in both theoretical and biblical contexts. [HD Major]

SSC4410 Applied Cultural Diversity (3 units - 5 weeks)
Students explore basic anthropological concepts and models for understanding the complexities of the world's diversity through the concept of culture. The course includes a holistic examination of kinship, social, political, economic, and religious systems of the world's diverse cultural groups. Students make applications in their chosen field of study or career. [HD Major]

BIB2120 Servant Leadership (3 units - 5 weeks)
Students examine biblical models of leadership informed by covenant, incarnation, and other scriptural concepts. Applications are made to personal and professional settings, as well as to church and society as a whole. Special Considerations: The faculty recommends that Christian Ministry Majors not take BIB2120 Servant Leadership because their own program includes a more indepth study of these issues in the form of BIB2700 Servant Leadership Theory and CHM3710 Strategic Leadership for Ministry Organizations. SSC4120 Statistics for the Social Sciences (3 units - 5 weeks)
This course introduces the student to basic statistics and their applications to research and behavioral sciences. Content includes descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and hypothesis testing. [HD Major]

SSC3610 Social Issues (2 units - 4 weeks)
Students explore a variety of cultural and social issues, and their impact on the family and society. These include divorce, domestic and gang violence, child abuse, substance abuse, and sexual orientation. Christian worldview and the role of the church community in specific social issues are also examined. Special Considerations: The faculty recommends that Christian Ministry Majors not take SSC3610 Social Issues because their own program includes CHM4410 Social Issues in Context, which covers similar issues from a ministerial perspective. SSC4125 Research Methods and Design (4 units - 6 weeks)
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of social research design. It emphasizes methods and skills needed to understand and conduct social science investigations. Prerequisite: SSC4120 Statistics for the Social Sciences. [HD Major]

PSY3342 Abnormal Psychology (3 units - 5 weeks)
This course explores abnormal psychology, giving primary attention to understanding the symptoms, causes, treatment, and prevention of mental disturbance. Students examine major theories for explaining and ameliorating mental illness, including perspectives from Christian theology and the community of faith. [HD Major]

BIB3130 A Foundation for Ethics (3 units - 5 weeks)
Philosophical and pragmatic perspectives are examined, including values and social/ethical premises in personal and organizational decision-making. A biblical worldview and its ethical system receive special attention. Case studies examine workplace decision-making, professional behavior, and ethical considerations in those processes. PSY3410 Counseling Theories and Practice (3 units - 5 weeks)
This course introduces major counseling theories. Students explore ethical, moral, and legal responsibilities related to professional counseling, as well as its application to diverse populations and its integration with Christian faith. [HD Major]

PSY3460 Counseling Skills (3 units - 5 weeks)
This course introduces counseling techniques. Attention is given to basic concepts, such as the therapeutic process, the client/therapist relationship, specific counseling procedures, and relevant biblical principles. [HD Major]

HDV4300 Learning Theory (3 units - 5 weeks)
This module covers learning theory across the life span. Students apply classical and contemporary theories of learning and instruction to a variety of learning and classroom situations, as well as to diverse student populations. [HD Major]

HDV4920 Applied Development and Counseling Strategy [Human Development Capstone - Counseling Emphasis] (4 units - 6 weeks)
In this capstone course, students demonstrate a comprehensive mastery of knowledge and skills gained from the Human Development Major with a Counseling Emphasis. Students present a written and oral Comprehensive Case Project that integrates theoretical concepts, counseling techniques, counseling strategies, and biblical values. Special Considerations: This capstone course is open only to Human Development Majors in the Counseling Track. [HD Major]

EDU4930 Applied Development and Education Strategy [Human Development Capstone - Education Emphasis] (4 units - 6 weeks)
In this capstone course, students demonstrate a comprehensive mastery of knowledge and skills gained through the Human Development Major with an Education Emphasis. Students present a written and oral Comprehensive Case Project that integrates theoretical concepts; relevant research literature; developmental, cultural, and social issues; classroom management; and biblical values. Special Considerations: This capstone course is open only to Human Development Majors in the Education Track. [HD Major]
