Joint M.Ed. with Multiple Subject Credential

Program Overview

Continuous learning is crucial to individual and organizational effectiveness. As such, the Education Department in the School of Graduate Studies prepares practitioners with relevant skills, knowledge, and values to assume leadership roles in educational settings.

Our graduates successfully serve as primary teachers, principles, and superintendents. Many of these individuals have even achieved "Teacher of the Year" or other honorary awards.

Graduate students will receive sound research training, a curriculum blend of theory and practice, and values-laden teaching from qualified faculty members.

The 42-unit combined Master of Education with SB2042 Multiple Subject Credential program allows students to pursue a preliminary credential while earning a Master's Degree in Education. Accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the joint program is designed to be an 18 - month full-time program. The M.Ed. may be completed entirely online or on campus, and some credential courses are offered online. Given the diverse nature of our school districts in California, the credential program has an emphasis in cross-cultural language and academic development. The emphasis prepares candidates to teach students who are Limited English Proficient (LEP).

Five core objectives are stressed within the program.

  • Students will develop, articulate, and support their theory of learning based on current and emerging knowledge of how learning happens.
  • Students will value the diversity of culture, language and individual learning styles and abilities.
  • Students will be able to understand their work with children in the larger context of the school, the family, and the community.
  • Students will be active learners, committed to lifelong learning.
  • Students will demonstrate faith integration within all aspects of learning.
