Servant Leaders in Action: Social Services
A Source of Inspiration and Hope
Dave (MFT ’96) and Kristi (B.A. in Psychology ’95) Camplin founded a non-profit organization called Inspire Life Skills Training, Inc in 2005. The purpose of Inspire is to provide former foster youth with the opportunity to attend college and to give them the support needed to become self-sufficient adults.
Many teenagers aging out of the foster care program feel alone with no housing and no family to turn to. Currently, fewer than 6% of foster children attend college, and fewer than 2% actually graduate. The Camplins set out to design a way for foster youths to conquer their past and have a future that is optimistic and rewarding.
Inspire provides many things for the youth that are aging out of the foster care system such as housing assistance, life skills training, education, and employment support. Inspire also provides these individuals with counseling, healthcare, and mentoring. The Camplins have changed the lives of many teenagers by giving them a community to belong to and a hope for their future.
