B.A. in Intercultural Studies
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Intercultural Studies (ICS) is a 126-unit, interdisciplinary major that combines Intercultural Studies courses with courses from other University departments.
Diversity has become standard in our society, increasing the importance of students who will learn how to effectively communicate and interact with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds. The demand for competent cross-cultural communicators in churches, educational institutions, ministries, non-profit organizations, and businesses is ever-increasing.
At Hope International University, we place strong emphasis on both theory and practical application. A key component of the ICS program is a 9-month practicum/internship in which students apply classroom learning to a real-life setting. Students may choose a cross-cultural mission organization anywhere in the world - whether that be in Southern California or around the globe. This may even include serving in a missions department of a local church.
The ICS program is designed to provide a strong foundation for a variety of career goals, including: Church Missions Staff, Overseas Missions, Church Planting, Urban Ministry, Bible Translation, Leadership Training, Development Organizations, Relief Organizations, Pastor, Teacher, and more. A Bachelor's degree in ICS also prepares students to further their expertise in graduate school.
