MTH0800 Basic Mathematics (3)
This course reviews the fundamental principles of mathematics and is designed to build proficiency in basic computational skills and reasoning as well as ease the transition from mathematics to introductory algebra and other higher levels of mathematics. It provides a systematic review of mathematics up to basic algebra, which includes but is not limited to: basic operations with whole numbers fractions, mixed numbers, decimals, rounding off, ratios, proportions and percentages, graphing, variable expressions, and volume and area calculations. This is a non-degree credit course. Placement by placement test score. This course must be successfully completed prior to taking MTH0100. It cannot be taken concurrently with MTH0100 or any other mathematics course. Credit/No Credit. Not transferable.
MTH0100 Mathematics Review (3)
A beginning algebra and algebra review required of all students diagnosed as insufficiently prepared for placement in MTH1100 College Algebra or MTH1150 Liberal Arts Math 1. Enrollment determined by the Quantitative Thought Test (QTT). Credit/No Credit. Not transferable.
MTH1100 College Algebra I (3)
Topics include: exponents, radicals, factoring, rational expressions, complex fractions, linear equations, quadratic equations, complex numbers, polynomial inequalities, absolute value equations and inequalities, functions, graphing, and polynomial functions. Placement by Math placement test.
MTH1110 Pre-calculus (3)
This class builds on MTH1100. Topics include: functions, systems of linear equations, matrices, determinates, Cramer's Rule, trigonometry, unit circle and radian measure, trigonometric functions, trigonometric proofs, trigonometric equations, Law of Cosines and Law of Sines. Placement by Math placement test.
MTH1150 Liberal Arts Math I (3)
This course is primarily designed for Liberal Studies majors and is the first of two courses to be taken sequentially. Topics include: sets, logic, counting techniques, probability, statistics, and number theory. Placement by Math placement test.
MTH1160 Liberal Arts Math II (3)
This second course of the two course sequence is intended to help prepare students for the mathematical portions of CBEST or GRE. Topics include: equations, inequalities, functions, graphs, geometry, and consumer mathematics. Placement by Math placement test. Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of MTH1150.
MTH1200 Business Math/Calculus (3)
The theory and application of the principles of differential and integral calculus designed for students of business and the social sciences. While the subject is approached from the perspective of the application to and the solution of relevant situations found in business and the social science fields, care is taken to ensure the integrity of mathematical theory and computational accuracy. Placement by Math placement test.
MTH4810 Math Teaching Assistant (1-3)
Student will assist with tasks and projects assigned by the instructor of record for each course. Prerequisite: Junior/Senior standing with instructor's approval.
SCI1100 Physical Science (3)
The Physical Science course and laboratory investigates selected topics in the fields of chemistry and physics. Several of the specific topics covered in the course include matter and its atomic structure, mixtures and compounds, chemical bonding, chemical equation balancing, Ideal Gas Laws, Newton’s laws of motion and gravity, temperature and heat and the changes of state, color light and lenses, magnetism, and electricity.
SCI1105 Physical Science Lab (1)
Laboratory experiments demonstrating principles presented in SCI1100. Prerequisite: SCI1100.
SCI1200 Biological Science (3)
For non-science majors. An introduction to the basic life functions of invertebrate and vertebrate organisms. Topics include: history of biology; basic chemistry of life processes; the cell theory; cellular structure and respiration; mitosis and meiosis; DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis; genetics; embryology; animal and plant taxonomy; animal and plant anatomy and physiology of systems; and the life processes of change from an evolutionary and creationistic viewpoint.
SCI1205 Biological Science Lab (1)
For non-science majors. Laboratory experiments demonstrating principles presented in SCI1200. Prerequisite: SCI1200.
SCI1250 General Biology with Lab (4)
For science majors. Introduction to molecular and cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, embryology, respiration, photosynthesis, animal and plant taxonomy, the structure and function of plants, and vertebrate and invertebrate organisms. Prerequisite: College Chemistry or current enrollment in College Chemistry, High School Biology recommended.
SCI1250L General Biology Lab (0)
