EDU1100 Introduction to Education (3)

An introduction to education designed to give students the information and guidance to determine if a career in education is what they desire. Emphasis is placed on developing a view of children that demonstrates an appreciation for the multifaceted nature of intelligence. Practical steps toward completing the course of study and preparing both for the required exams and entrance into a credential program are also incorporated.

EDU3100 Foundations of Education (3)

Examines theory and research of historical, philosophical and psychological foundations of education. Topics include educational objectives, student characteristics, learning theory, motivation, teaching methods, evaluation and application of these topics in a classroom. The course also explores the concept of servant leadership and the need for developing a moral purpose as an educator and a Christian. A minimum of 30 hours of observation in public schools is required.

EDU4800 Teaching Practicum (3)

Students examine the role of the teacher and build on the information and ideas covered in EDU1100, Introduction to Education, and PHE3100, P.E. for Children. Students will further develop teaching methods, discipline approaches, and overall profession practices, and have opportunities to articulate and explain a maturing understanding of the role th teacher and their preparation for this career. The goal of this course is to encourage the student to articulate his or her reasons for choosing education as a career, affirm the strengths that the student possesses and can apply to becoming an excellent teacher, and to assist graduation students through the process of state examinations. Coursework will include 20 hours of classroom observation. Prerequisite: PHE3100.

EDU4805 Education Teaching Assistant (1-3)

Student will assist with tasks and projects assigned by the instructor of record for each course. Prerequisite: Junior/Senior standing with instructor's approval.
