11/27/07 Fullerton, CA - Hope International University Women's Basketball Climbs to the Top of the GSAC
Fullerton, CA- The HIU Royals moved into first place by defeating rival Biola University 62-57. They remain undefeated in Golden State Athletic Conference play, while improving their overall season record to an impressive 9-1. The come from behind victory featured 6 ties and 14 lead changes. Freshman Brittany Philbrook (Norco, CA) led the way with her first collegiate double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Philbrook’s three pointer at the end of the first half tied the score at 27.
Two-time All GSAC performer and Senior Jasmine Nault (Anaheim, CA) dropped in 24 points, including 16 in the second half, to be the game’s leading scorer. Juniors Stephanie Wenke (Anacortes, WA) and Sarah Nylander (Ojai, CA) both finished with 9 points. All of Nylander’s points came from behind the three point line. Wenke received the biggest ovation from the crowd late in the game after a couple of crossover-between-the-legs dribbles that left her Biola defender standing still and created a wide open lay-up for herself.
The Royals return to action this Saturday on the road against nationally ranked Point Loma Nazarene. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm as part of a double header with Men’s Basketball. The game will be broadcast on Stretch Internet and available at http://www.hiu.edu/athletics/livebcast/.
