9/1/09 Fullerton, CA - Fullerton School District Superintendent Dr. Mitch Hovey to be honored by Hope International University at Disney’s Grand Californian® Hotel & Spa

Dr. Mitch Hovey, Superintendent of the Fullerton School District is the 2009 recipient of the Spirit of Hope Award, presented by Hope International University during their annual “Celebrate Hope” dinner. The Spirit of Hope Award is presented to individuals whose vocations and avocations exhibit the spirit of the University. Beginning with the first recipient in 2000, Hope has selected men and women who have through their character and charitable activities fostered hope in the hearts of others.

Since he took the helm in 2007 at Fullerton, Dr. Hovey and his team continue to lead the state in meeting the learning needs of all students and keep the focus on children. In the latest release of the 2008/2009 Academic Performance Index (API) scores, 18 of 20 of the Fullerton District’s schools made positive growth with 14 of the 20 schools achieving double-digit increases. The District as a whole achieved a double-digit increase. In addition, Dr. Hovey launched Project Community CONNECT, whose mission is to provide educational and wellness support to critically at-risk students in the Fullerton community through a leadership group that represents local school districts, community agencies, and service organizations.

He is a transformational leader who brings out the best in others and creates a culture of excellence in our local schools.”

Hope International University’s annual “Celebrate Hope” dinner will be held at Disney’s Grand Californian® Hotel & Spa in Anaheim, CA, on Friday, October 16th at 6:00 p.m. Astronaut, explorer, scientist, and American hero, Dr. Buzz Aldrin will be the keynote speaker.
