2/4/11 Fullerton, CA - New Women’s Residence Life Coordinator at HIU
A shift in leadership has brought a new Women’s Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) into the Housing Department at Hope International University. Before coming on board at HIU, Alyssa Pahules was the Area Director for Young Life Surf City, a Christian organization that focuses on impacting the lives of adolescents. Located in Huntington Beach, CA, Young Life is where Pahules gained experience in ministry, leadership, programming, and communication, each of which she believes helped prepare her to be an RLC.
So far Pahules seems to love everything about living on campus, from the close proximity of her room to her office and the gym to the availability of food in the cafeteria. She noted that everyone has been very welcoming to her and her family, and her children are enjoying interacting with the students who pass through the Omega dorm lobby.
Pahules is looking forward to getting to play basketball, indoor soccer, and going surfing with students, but she has other goals as well. “I'd like to see [students] develop a love for Jesus and people and a sense of who they are in His Kingdom.”
One responsibility of an RLC is to work with students who challenge the student conduct code. Pahules sees these instances as opportunities. “I want to help them grow from their mistakes,” she said. “I don’t want to dismiss anyone.”
When asked what she thought was the biggest reward of being an RLC, Pahules cited the impact she wants to have on students. “Helping students grow in their faith and personal life, and helping them become the adults they desire to be.”
