The Heirloom Shoppe - One of Hope's Biggest Supporters

Photo - Heirloom ShoppeIt all started 22 years ago in a quaint old house on Commonwealth Avenue, Fullerton, CA, where a few dynamic individuals put their heads together and decided to make an impact on their community. They wanted to find a way to contribute financial support to the students of Pacific Christian College of Hope International University and so they started a thrift store called "The Heirloom Shoppe."

As many thrift stores do, the Heirloom Shoppe sells secondhand goods such as jewelry, dinnerware, clothes, kitchenware, decorations, books, and more. But this is no ordinary thrift store. For 22 years, the Heirloom Shoppe has donated financial gifts to Hope, estimating over $750,000.

The Heirloom Shoppe has provided both student scholarships and funding for significant campus projects. Over the past year alone, the Heirloom Shoppe raised $5,000 that was dedicated to the recording and composition equipment of the HIU music department and over $22,000 for student scholarships.

Katherine Rowe, one of five individuals, (along with Nancy Briggs, Lorraine Dupray, Nina Storey and Dorothy Wiles-Norton,) who lead the Shoppe, has been with the Shoppe since it's conception. The motto she lives by is: "the more you give, the more you receive." Katherine and all the other leaders and volunteers love knowing that they have a ministry by impacting the lives of students through their work at the Shoppe. It is easy to see how Katherine's motto plays out in the lives of all the volunteers.

Hope's Professor of Children's Ministry, Steve Alley, shows his support by bringing his classes to volunteer at the Heirloom Shoppe every year. His involvement is greatly appreciated, and the store managers enjoy the student volunteers.

You can visit the Heirloom Shoppe at 400 E Commonwealth, just east of Lemon Street, Mondays through Fridays from 9:30am - 3:30pm. The Shoppe accepts donations of jewelry, collectibles, dinnerware, clothes, kitchenware, decorations, books, luggage, etc, and is always looking for volunteers. Contact Katherine Rowe on Mondays at (714) 447-3016 for more information.
