HIU Staff/Faculty Member Leads Study Abroad Trip to Europe 2008
A group of eleven students from Hope traveled to Europe this summer from May 16 - June 1 as part of an overseas course. This was designed as an alternative to the required Leadership Skills class. Students traveled through Europe, visiting the counties of France, Italy, Austria, and Germany.
Katie Bond, Director of Retention, Student Activities, and Study Abroad supervised the expedition. Bond initiated the program last year and strongly encourages cross-cultural experiences for college students.
“Learning takes place all around, both inside and outside of the classroom. What students learn while traveling internationally is often life changing. They learn things that cannot be taught inside a typical classroom; it’s about the experience” said Bond. “It's important for me to help students realize that they are part of a global community and to help them see the world from a different perspective.”
The Leadership Skills course is taught at Schloss Mittersill, a Christian University located in a Castle in Mittersill, Austria. The five-day course intensive replaces the on-campus May-term class.
