HIU Staff/Faculty Member Teaches in Spain

Katie Bond, Director of Student Activities, Study Abroad, and Retention, taught with a program in Madrid, Spain during the month of June. The focus of the two-week course was to teach English for the professional setting to Spanish businessmen and women. Bond taught overseas last year as well, and leads the yearly HIU study abroad trips to Europe.

The students were private business owners and presidents and CEOs of their companies, and attended the program from all over the world. They strengthened their English skills in order to be better communicators in international business settings. Bond specifically focused on improving public speaking skills and saw remarkable progress between the first to the last day of her stay.

Bond said of her experience, “Teaching overseas has been a life-changing experience for me. It has given me a broader perspective on educational practices and I have gained skills that are applicable to my roles as an educator here in the States as well.”

Bond has plans to return in 2009 to continue teaching abroad.
