Margaret Pugh Joins Advancement Department as Summer Intern Through Troy Tech Magnet Program
Troy High School student Margaret Pugh will be interning at Hope International University (HIU) in the Institutional Advancement department during June and July, 2012. Margaret, who will serve as the Marketing and Development Intern at HIU, is a rising senior at Troy in Fullerton and is part of their Tech Magnet Program.
“We are very excited to have Margaret join our department for the summer and to be partnering with one of Fullerton’s exceptional high schools, Troy High School,” Katie Gladding, Director of Marketing at HIU, said. “By intentionally providing opportunities to develop Margaret’s skills and expose her to varied aspects of the workplace, our intent is that she will learn things she can apply to a future career. In the short time I have worked with her, I can already see that she is an exceptional individual.”
The Tech Program requires a 150 hour unpaid internship in the student’s field of choice. The internship provides students with professional work experience and helps them determine whether or not they want to further pursue that career field. Troy’s internship program also helps to distinguish its students from other college applicants. Internship sites range from Raytheon and the American Cancer Society to foreign companies overseas. At the end of students’ senior year, the Program culminates at the Troy Tech Fair where they showcase what they have learned and accomplished.
Although Margaret is interested in engineering, she wants to learn more about the marketing side of the work force. Having learned how to design and manufacture her product ideas in her classes at Troy, she wishes to learn more about marketing and thought working at HIU’s offices would be the perfect fit.
While interning under Vice President for Institutional Advancement Michael Mulryan, Margaret will work alongside the Institutional Advancement team in areas such as: Marketing, Development, Website Work, Social Media, Publications, and Special Event Projects. “I am very excited to learn more about marketing and how I can apply what I have learned,” Margaret said. “HIU is definitely a perfect place for me to develop new skills for a new subject.”
