Head Coach Joe Lurker
Joe Lurker begins his third season as the Head Coach of the Hope International Men’s Soccer team. Lurker has built a team in 2008 that he hopes will catch other teams off guard and propel the Royals into a higher standing in the GSAC.
In 2007, the Royals scrapped to an 8-10 overall record to go along with 2-8 record in the GSAC. The team produced a five game winning streak that was highlighted by four shutouts. In fact, they outscored their opponents 12-1 during that span. Without a doubt, the highlight of the season was defeating NAIA #9 Westmont 1-0 with the winning goal coming in the 90th minute of the match.
Lurker’s freshman collegiate coaching season, 2006, can be summed up in one word- injuries. At times throughout the season, which saw the team finish with a record of 3-13 and 2-8 in GSAC games, Lurker only had twelve healthy players to put on the field. However, the gem of the season was a 1-0 win versus the then NAIA #2 Azusa Pacific University.
Along with coaching at Hope, Coach Lurker is the Head Coach of the GU16 AC Brea Girls Club team.
Prior to Hope, Lurker served as an Assistant Coach at Biola University- where he played and started all four years of his college career. He prepped at Santa Margarita High School which should help him recruit in Orange County.
Lurker completed a Master’s in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University in December 2007. He earned his BA in sociology from Biola University in 2005.
Coach Lurker resides in Orange, CA.
