Christopher A. Davis, Dean of School of Professional Studies
Dr. Chris Davis was appointed Dean of the School of Professional Studies on November 1, 2005. He brought to this new position over 20 years of experience in higher education and ministry.
Dr. Davis is a graduate of Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tennessee (BA, BTh) and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia (ThM, DMin, PhD). He has completed additional studies at Milligan College (Johnson City, Tennessee), United Theological Seminary (Dayton, Ohio), and Jerusalem University College (Israel).
Dr. Davis joined the Hope faculty in June 2002 as Professor of New Testament. He teaches primarily Bible courses for the Ministry Department of the School of Graduate Studies. He also serves as Hope's Accreditation Liaison Officer, facilitating the University's membership in the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Biblical Higher Education (ABHE).
Before coming to Hope, Dr. Davis served for ten years as Professor of New Testament and Vice President of Academics for Crossroads College in Rochester, Minnesota. An ordained minister, he has worked with churches in Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Tennessee, and Virginia. As short-term missionaries involved in leadership training, he and his wife Cathy helped to establish the New Hope Church of Christ in Kasama, Zambia. The Davises are currently members of the Diamond Canyon Christian Church, where Chris teaches adult Bible studies.
Dr. Davis' scholarly interests center on Biblical Theology. His major publications include The Structure of Paul's Theology: "The Truth Which Is the Gospel" (Mellen Biblical Press) and The College Press NIV Commentary: Revelation. He also enjoys reading history, playing chess, and gardening.
Chris and his wife Cathy have been happily married for over 25 years. They reside in Whittier, California.
